Our winter sale will start online on Christmas day and in store on Wednesday 28th December from 10am. This year, we are providing an option to buy online and collect from one of our stores when we reopen. When you checkout, simply add a note in the "Delivery Instructions" box telling us that you would like to collect your items, and making sure to specify Honiton or Exmouth. We will need a little time to ensure that some items are transferred from one store to the other but will give you a call when your purchases are ready to collect. Postage will be refunded on these orders.

One of the major trends this season is the "Homespun" look, encompassing all items that look handmade. Here at Caramel, we absolutely love this trend - not only is it stylish but it will also keep you snug and cosy as the weather starts to get colder! Falling perfectly into the "homespun" trend is Lazy Daze, one of our accessories brands that we spotted at the Devon County Show! We have some absolutely gorgeous Lazy Daze scarves, gloves and hats which are all hand knitted in Devon by Karen (the owner) or her mother, Freda. Karen also works with an organisation that supports rural women in Uruguay who have been involved in hand dying some of the wool that Lazy Daze uses.

Five Years Old

This week is the Five year anniversary of when I started the business. So I have been in reflective mood. I opened a tiny little shop in the front room of a cottage on Honiton High Street. I only had two brands to sell for the first few weeks (Great Plains and Nougat) and nearly sold out in the first week. To keep up with demand I added more brands and after a few months of working 6 days a week with no lunch breaks I was able to take on my first member of staff. I am glad to say that Nikki is still with Caramel today. She now manages the website for me and is one of the ten staff I now have in the two stores.

I still remember the customers that I had during those first few weeks and months and I am glad to say that they are still with us as well.

So on Thursday 11th we are celebrating with a Shopping evening in both stores. We will provide the bubbly and the fantastic new Spring collection as well as giving 10% off on the evening. We hope you will join us in raising a glass to another five successful years ahead.

If you are concerned about the spring trend for beige and all things nude - do not dispair! This is not a easy colour to wear for many of us, so I have bought plenty of fabulous brights to chase away the winter blues.

If you are attending a wedding this year, it is not too early to start looking, in fact the Fenn Wright Manson Collection has plenty to offer for the Mother of the bride or wedding guest.

Online so far we have the Sandwich Clothing Spring Collection, Fenn Wright Manson and Fransa. We will have the Noa Noa, Avoca and Seasalt online next week. Both of our shops have the full spring range which is selling quickly already.

We have been in party mode for a few weeks now. Our party collection has helped many of you look fabulous this Christmas and now it is our turn. Tonight we are all getting together for our Christmas night out. I shall be wearing my fantastic Purple Fenn Wright Manson Wool belted dress, Susan has her LBD by Sandwich, Nikki is going for Noa Noa and we shall have to wait and see what the rest of the team have chosen.

Last night we held another of our successful champagne shopping evenings in the Honiton store. A group of canny women decided that they would combine their Christmas night out with some retail therapy before heading off for their meal. So we provided the Champers as well as our one to one service and helped find fantastic outfits to wear on Christmas day as well as some great gifts.

Talking of Christmas day, my Fenn Wright Manson dress will be layered with a black top underneath and worn with boots rather than the killer heals- perfect for opening presents and enjoying the festivities!

A girl can never have too many accessories!

This week we have seen lots of our wonderful new accessories delivered into our two stores. First to arrive was Earth Squared who produce fantastic bags and scarves. They are all fairtrade and have scarves which co-ordinate with the trim on the bags.The bags are just £35 and the scarves are £25.

We think they make great presents and as many of you are starting your Christmas shopping (you are so organised) they could be worth popping in to the shops for a closer look.

Next to arrive were our fabulous Shirley Pinder Scarves. Shirley designs her scarves in Scotland and is from a family of hand-weavers on the Isle of Mull. So is you love a scarf that is a little more exclusive which will draw admiration from all your friends, pop in and take a look at our Shirley Pinder Scarves.

Next week we take delivery of our Jocasi belts and bags. They have changed the designs of their bags this season and we are very excited. Soft leather in gorgeous colours with this seasons must have chain detail strap.

Autumn Collection

We have had a very busy time during the last few weeks at Caramel. Our Sale has almost finished (the remaining sale is now at 70% off) and we have received some of our Autumn stock. I know it seems strange to think of Autumn clothes now but we are not talking about thick jumpers, coats and gloves just yet.

The colours are fantastic. Bubblegum pinks, plums and soft greens as well as reds and monochrome black and cream. The tunics and dresses can be worn now with sandals and then warmed up later with opaque tights, leggings and boots.

We love opening a new delivery and I can normally tell by the "Oohs" that the team approve of our latest collection. One of the biggest "Oohs" came last week when we took delivery of a fantastic Mac by Noa Noa. Pale blue check with a belt and fantastic value at £79.

Meanwhile I have been up in London buying a fantastic collection for next Spring as well as accessories for this Autumn. More news on those and a great new brand I have found in a later blog.

By popular demand Caramel have decided to launch a fully transaction website!

So we have invested in a new till system and the website is being designed right now.

We are busy adding all of our fantastic new Autumn stock to the system as it arrives.

The new system is quite simply Brilliant.

Already it is helping me to plan the buying for next Spring which I am about to start (that is the world of fashion retail for you).

It tells me which sizes I sell out of most quickly, which colours sell best and all sorts of interesting things. Now I thought I knew all of this just by being in the shops each week but it turns out that there were a few surprises.

What this means for our customers is that now we should have more of the size they are looking for, in the colour that they like and by the brand they love.

If only it had a crystal ball function to predict what next years best sellers were going to be!
